BONUS: We Are All Bat People (Songified Batman Argument)

Voice-over: Good morning, Hank and John. You
remember that epic Batman argument you had? John (speaking): I kind of HATE Batman… Voice-over: It just got songified so… now
we can all dance to the sound of brothers fighting. Hank (singing): You’ve got Batman ENTIRELY
wrong. John, we are all bat-people. (clap clap clap) John (singing): Hank, Gotham never gets better
for long. Crime is not actually caused by evil. Hank (singing and overlapping John): We are
all bat-people! John (singing): Crime is not actually caused
by evil! (3 beat instrumental break) John (singing): Batman’s just a rich guy with
an affinity for bats, who is playing out his insane fantasy… how is that heroic? Hank (singing): Batman’s values and actions
are a reflection of our own values and actions to make the world BETTER! John (singing): Doesn’t Batman understand
how difficult it is for an underfunded city like Gotham to replace roads and bridges? Hank (singing): We see ourselves in the cracks
in his facade, in his anger and frustration because we have all these things too. John (singing): Hank, Hank (singing): John, John (singing): Hank, Hank (singing): John, John (signing): Hank, Hank… Hank (singing): John, you’ve got Batman ENTIRELY
wrong….. John, we are all Bat-people! ( clap clap clap ) John (singing): Hank, Gotham never gets better
for long… Crime is not actually caused by evil! Hank (singing): We are all bat-people! John (singing): Crime is not actually caused
by evil! (Instrumental Break) John (singing): Crime is caused by systemic
disenfranchisement and poverty and lack of access to job opportunities… Hank (singing): We are not the heroes Earth
needs (echos)… but the heroes Earth just happened to get. John (singing): Hank, Hank (singing): John, John, John (singing): Hank, Hank (singing): John, John (singing): Hank, Hank, Hank (singing): John, you’ve got Batman ENTIRELY
wrong! John, we are ALL Bat-people! ( clap clap, clap ) John (singing): Hank, Gotham never gets better
for long. Crime is NOT actually caused by evil! Hank (singing): We are all bat-people! John (singing and slightly overlapping Hank):
Crime is not actually caused by evil… (clap clap, clap clap) Hank and John at the same time: John/Hank,
I will see you on Friday/Tuesday. Voice-over: …and everybody won. THE END. (voice-over clip from suggested video plays
over endroll)

I can't actually watch the original video anymore without thinking of this…they sound rhythmical even when talking about this!

Besides Hank's smile, what gives me warm fuzzy feelings is the Hank-John-John-Hank-John-Hank-Hank-John part. It just fits so well 🙂 love these guys!

"Gotham never gets better for long"
I don't think Batman can fix that, but he still stops people from murdering other people, not that there aren't better ways to do it than Batman's methods. He keeps Gotham from getting worse.

How do I only now find out this song exists? It sums up all my conflicting feelings about being a superhero fan and it is just so groovy! My new nerd anthem!

Charlie's new video reminded me of this video and now here I am listening to it. I can't believe this was three years ago!

I actually agree with John. Hank actually never addressed John’s logical argument about the “need” for superheroes in general; they wouldn’t be “needed” if the problems in society were fixed. When Hank made the t-shirts nerdfighters could buy to support the side they agreed with, he put “Batman’s just a rich guy with an affinity for bats” on the John shirt, instead of his actual argument: Batman is tackling Gotham’s problems the wrong way because “Crime is not actually caused by evil.” That would have been much better to put on a shirt, and as such I probably would have purchased it.

    It is 2018
    1:29 in the morning
I have been watching this on repeat for the last hour and a half
I cannot even begin to explain the feelings this video gives me
I am equal parts happy and sad
I could probably cry right now
And I feel silly about it
I just love it so much

It’s a shame that Hank has the best part of the song because I am firmly Team John in the great Batman divide.

Okay so here's the thing….while I was in college last year I fell into a deep depression, like I ended up institutionalized. And one night, at like four in the morning, I discovered this amazing video. I was in a really bad place and this video made me feel happy and like I could cry at the same time. It's so hard to explain exactly how melancholic and happy this video made me feel. And I don't know why because it's just some SILLY SONG ABOUT BATMAN. Point being I became so obsessed that I listened to it on repeat to fall asleep to for like an entire week. 🤷

Playing this at 1.25x speed can make any day better. (Source: just had a really shitty day that had me crying for 3 hours, and then played this, and am feeling better)
