CCDC and Think+Change -Citizens Not Consumers

(upbeat music) Narrator: From CCDC and Think Change. Disability in Society Educational Series. Citizen, not just consumer. We all belong to communities, our neighborhood, city, or country, for example. As a member, a citizen, of a community, we are part of something bigger than ourselves. Citizenship implies that you’re expected to own the problems of your community and accept that these problems can only be fixed with your and other citizens’ involvement. Consumerism implies consumption without responsibility or relationship. Through the lens of the consumer, there are only two ways to participate, buying or using stuff. Citizens demand that they be engaged. Participating as a member of my community, as a citizen of my community, means being the community I want. Calling people with disabilities consumers implies they simply consume and don’t contribute. People with disabilities want to and should be recognized and included as citizens. Teach me how to speak and teach me how to share .
    Ephesians 4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
    1 Timothy 6:18 – That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;

    Luke 3:11 – He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.

    Luke 6:38 – Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

    CCTC is an outstanding organization and they are on the cutting edge and are leaders in
    disability rights, fair housing.
    And are a deliverance from the oppressors of the poor and the needy and the disabled.
    They are state lobbyist and the executive director and the legal department are absolutely the finest people on earth and have the highest integrity of anyone I know.
    The organization is run by volunteers, these people are not money grubbers,anything that you donate to CCDC would be wisely spent.
