(Dramatic music, radio scanner) (Dramatic music, radio scanner) Hank Partin: “Our world moves at a very fast pace now. We can’t always guess what’s around the next corner but it’s always better to be
more prepared than not be prepared at all.” (Voice over) In the event of an emergency or
severe weather you want to be informed and know what to do to keep you and your
family safe. The best way to do this is by signing up for Montgomery County
Citizens Alert, the county’s emergency notification system. Signing up is simple.
Just head to our website and look for the links to Citizens Alert. Once you are
in the system, customize it to your individual needs. Neal Turner: “It enables us to
contact those citizens who are interested in knowing more about their
community and more about emergency response. As they sign up they would be
able to select a menu of the items that they would like to be notified for,
whether it be hazardous weather, flooding events, boil water notices through the
health department, or pandemics through the health department, things of that
nature. And by them signing up actually doing their own picking–your own menu–
they’re much more capable of narrowing down the alerts that they get.” Voice over: In
addition to emergency notifications from the county, anyone interested in notices
related to the town of Christiansburg have the option to receive those as well.
Steve Biggs: “For Christiansburg residents one of the things I think is going to work with
really well is beyond the emergency services response issues, if we have
something going on like a utility repair or some sort of temporary road closure
or some sort of special event, we can use this system to notify people of that.” Voice over:
Provide the information you want to provide and select the types of alerts
you want to receive and how you want to receive them.
Text, phone call, email. It’s that easy, and in the end by signing up for Citizens
Alert, you help us help you in more ways than one. Neal Turner: “So instead of worrying about
maybe calling 25 people or a hundred people or even a greater number, I make
one call, we activate the system. Everybody gets the exact same message
with the exact same tone of the message at one time. Then we’re moving on to the
next phase of whether it be a rescue, a preparedness, or a response to something
actively going on.” Hank Partin: “Well, not only will it let the citizens know of any anything
coming up that they might need to know about in order to prepare, but it will
save a lot of time for us. It will save a lot of incoming phone traffic, email
traffic, text traffic for us that we can devote to other areas where our
resources should be moving out to in order to try to keep up with the flow of
whatever situation is occurring.” Sign up for Citizens Alert at Mont V-A dot com.
