We know that the situation with Brexit is a little bit complicated issue for EU citizens and for UK citizens too. That is the reason why the European Commission prepared a serious document concerning this issue. This document concerns a visa free regime for UK citizens and for EU citizens too but it’s also a solution for the citizens of so called third countries. We don’t need complications on the UK and EU borders. That was EPP Group spokesperson Pál Csáky explaining why the EU wants to ensure visa free travel for UK and EU citizens after 29 March, the day Britain leaves the EU. In a vote, the European Parliament’s Civil Liberties Committee approved a European Commission proposal under which, after 29 March, UK citizens will be able to travel for short stays without a visa in the EU and EU citizens will be able to do the same in the UK. Mr Csáky explained what will happen even if Britain leaves the EU on 29 March without an agreement with the EU and why a visa free regime is so important. If the UK leaves the European Union without an agreement, without a deal, this document came into force also on 30 March this year, so we are prepared for all eventualities. We are Europeans. We will be Europeans also in the future. We have a very strong interest for living together with the United Kingdom. And this is a reason why a visa free regime would be a good element of this excellent relationship also for the future.
