EU summit: British PM May offers to protect EU citizens’ rights

British Prime Minister Theresa May has offered
her fellow EU leaders what she calls a “fair deal” for EU citizens living in Britain after
Brexit. During an EU summit in Brussels on Thursday,
Mrs May said three million EU citizens living in the UK for five years will be given ‘settled
status’, giving them rights to stay and access healthcare, education and other benefits… She also said British nationals in other EU
states should receive the same rights. EU leaders said May’s proposal was a good
start, but there are still many questions, including the exact cut-off date for new arrivals
seeking ‘settled status’. Prime Minister May said more details will
be announced next Monday.
