India Rejects US over Citizenship Bill

Yesterday, the Lok Sabha has passed the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) and now it will be presented in the Rajya Sabha today on 11th December. Members of Parliament and people all over the country are not at all happy with the CAB law. The American organisation called US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) said that CAB law is very dangerous and India is going in the wrong way. They also said that because of this law, many Muslims will not be given Indian citizenship which is very wrong. After this, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) released a strong reply. The MEA said that the USCIRF does not know about the situation in India and are simply making statements. If they are involved and see the situtaion of Indians properly, they would not say all this. The Indian government said that India doesn’t want to give citizenship to Muslims. In countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Muslims are a Majority. But there are also other religions like Christians, Parsis, etc. are a minorities. Since Muslims are a majority, the minorities are persecuted. Hindus, Parsis and people of other religions are suffering. This is why they want to come to India for a better life. The government wants to help them by giving them Indian Citizenship. Since Muslims are a majority in their countries they can stay there and do not need to come to India. The USCIRF must support India and understand us.
