José Andrés on Citizenship

José Andrés: So, my name is José Andrés. It happens I’m a chef. I am from a beautiful region
in Northern Spain called Asturias. I arrived in United
States in 1991. I got opportunity to come
New York with E2 visa. I came just to
bring the culture, the cooking of the part
of the world I am from. I was supposed to get my
citizenship much earlier. I just got it two years ago. The reason I waited was I
was waiting for my wife. I wanted to do it together. I am the type of guys that
believe that the American dream still exists
today, and if anything, new citizens are going to
be only helping to make the dream even better, to keep
moving this amazing country forward but also to be
this kind of light of hope. We need to remember that
millions and millions left everything they had behind
to be part of the new American dream. They put their
lives at risk. If you have the opportunity
to become a citizen, don’t wait to do it. Why? You are already part of
what America’s all about. You are helping move
America forward. You are part of the DNA of
what America is all about. You need to become a citizen
because we need you to keep being part of everything
you’ve been fighting for. Just do it.
