Manukura sevens side off to nationals

A special character school based
in Palmerston North continues to produce
high performing athletes. Manukura School has secured two
out of three regional spots to compete at the National Secondary
School Sevens Rugby champs at the end of the year
and as Te Okiwa McLean reports, it’s not just the lads carving up
on the field. Although the comp is months away, they are focusing
on training hard. Manukura has been gunning to secure a spot in the nationals
for the past four years. This year not only their boys
side qualified but their girls side did as well. But academics is priority. For this East Coast lad,
he has a bright future ahead. He says, the skills he’s gained
from sevens is beneficial for him. I’m moving to Australia in November
to play rugby league next year. Who for? That’s top secret. But there is still a lot of work
to be done. Nationals will be held in Auckland
in December. Te Okiwa McLean, Te Karere.
