MEPs and MPs talk Green Deal, Brexit


Actually now more than ever, we need to make sure that national parliaments understand what we´re doing. The EPP Group´s Mairead McGuinness, on the last meeting of 2019 with members of National Parliaments. As Vice-President of the European Parliament, McGuinness handles relations with the MPs – relations crucial for a newly elected European Parliament and European Commission to take action. We need to listen very carefully to the message they´re bringing to us, from the grassroots, because it is in the grassroots that change can really happen. The issues at this meeting: the new Green Deal, Brexit and the Conference on the Future of Europe. Commission President Ursula von der Leyen explained her key objectives. The newly elected President of the EPP family Donald Tusk underlined how EU values remain a beacon of light to the people still living under oppression. Thus the importance of keeping the lines of communication between Brussels and Europe´s capitals, says EPP Group Vice President Vangelis Meimarakis, who is also in charge of Relations with National Parliaments. “I therefore believe that hrough these debates and with the participation of the national parliamentarians who are the ambassadors of our views and of our ideas and they are in full contact with the citizens, to talk about all the problems, but mainly for the climate change that you have mentioned, about Brexit and about other issues of concern.
