Paul Krugman Teaches Economics and Society | Official Trailer | MasterClass

[MUSIC PLAYING] We live in strange times. The housing bubble
burst– rise of China– and the rise of inequality. Health is a very big deal. Taxes are a front rank issue. Blue-collar jobs were lost. Two groups have
been left behind. But it’s a complicated story. Instead of saying, ah,
it’s a complicated world, I don’t get it, say, all right,
let me try to figure this out. Let me make sense of this. Doing economics
requires stepping back from all of the details to say,
what is the essential here? What is the story? It’s about people. It’s not about money. And it ends up being
about what people do. Really good economics has
a kind of beauty to it. And it comes down to
just two principles. Hundred-dollar bills don’t
lie on the street very long. The other is, every
sale is also a purchase. Things add up. What you’re going to
learn here in this class is how to think
like an economist. Health care in America
is an economic issue. Left to its own devices, private
health insurance actually just doesn’t work. The crisis of 2008 wasn’t as
bad as the Great Depression. And if you ask why, well,
because we learned something. It’s never been more
important to educate yourself. There isn’t an
establishment that knows what it’s
doing and is going to get us through all of this. It’s going to have
to come from you. There’s no guarantee
that good ideas prevail. But if you don’t try to
have those good ideas and get them out there, then,
of course, they won’t prevail. Keep on plugging, and don’t
let the crazies grind you down. I’m Paul Krugman, and
this is my MasterClass.

Ordinary Americans don't have a clue of what economy really is. They just believe fairy tales and let the demons run amock. Someone rightly said about you "it's called the American dream, cause you have to be asleep to believe it".

Oh boy, a bit of an anarcho-capitalist circle-jerk going on here in the comment section. And they all seem to know more about economics than a Nobel-prize-winning economist. AmAzInG. I find it so ironic people like these will totally ignore the economists who laid the very foundations of their ideology – Adam Smith, Kenneth Arrow – even the ones who proved the theorems of General Equilibrium Theory that they use to justify their worship of private power.

For anyone that takes the class, an obligatory read is the book "Contra Krugman: : Smashing the Errors of America's Most Famous Keynesian" by Robert P. Murphy

Mr. Krugman is the wisest and utterly innovative economist I've ever seen as I studied most of my economics classes with his textbooks and theories in college!

Krugman is always wrong, he didn't even see the housing crisis coming and he said the US was going into a deep recession 3 years ago

What’s this bullshit and I do not mean the typical pickering between liberals and conservatives in the thread, why is this man a winner of Nobel prize in economics (haaaaaaaaa) trying to nickel and dime. Teach what the average citizen doesn’t care about economics but if you do you will study at college or at some other institution or watch the thousands of videos on economics on YouTube Paul yaps about economics and the housing bubble on several videos.
These people are show men as I said his trying to nickel and dime you while the same time spreading corporate propaganda and if the economist was a consertive(haaaaaaaa) he be doing the some thing.

It's funny how most of ppl here judge nobel winning economists. Complaining and saying he didn't see the housing crisis coming, who did?

Why did they get Paul Krugman instead of a real Economist to teach this class? I remember reading this guy's article on the New York Times defending AOC and it was so painful trying to get through it, like nobody with this many academic credentials should ever present themselves as so unintelligent and out of touch with reality without being labeled as a fraud. He said that claiming Capitalism is more important than Democracy is right wing extremism, like he is fine with a society that is economically devastated and in deep poverty so long as it's leaders are elected.
