People of Forestry: Vickie Roberts Ratliff of Mississippi

I was raised on a farm here in Mississippi. I am a fourth generation land owner. My father was a row cropper and after he transitioned,
my mother put our farm into trees. I’ve gained so much respect for my parents
after understanding what it took to keep this land. Mississippi has the second largest percentage
of land owners that are women and that are African American and I want to do everything
I can to help those land owners keep that land in their families. Experts from the Mississippi Forestry Commission
and also the USDA, different agencies, are very important in helping me to implement
sustainable practices on my property. I’ve taken everything I’ve learned and put
it into a book. Using sustainable practices, land owners can
create generational wealth. I conserve my family’s legacy by sharing my
story. I am Vickie Roberts-Raliff and I am a proud
Mississippi Timberland owner.
