Residents excited as 1st grocery store opens in downtown Raleigh

NO WORD ON HOW SERIOUSLY ANYONE WAS HURT. WELL, DOWNTOWN RALEIGH IS BECOMING A HOT MARKET FOR BUSINESS. AND THIS WEEKEND, A GROCERY STORE JOINED THE COMMUNITY. CBS 17’S ZACH ASKED PEOPLE DOWNTOWN WHAT THIS MEANS FOR THE AREA. HOW’S EVERYONE DOING OVER HERE? THERE’S HURTS TO CALLING DOWNTOWN RALEIGH HOME. ONE OF THE BIG THINGS THAT’S NICE ABOUT LIVING DOWNTOWN IS NOT HAVING TO GET IN YOUR CAR TO DO ANYTHING. A TEN MINUTE DRIVE TO CAMERON VILLAGE IS ONE OF THE CLOSER GROCERY STORES. 20 MINUTES ROAD TRIP IN A CARVERS AS FIVE MINUTE WALK. BUT THIS WEEKEND, HE AND HIS GIRLFRIEND CASSIE SMITH ARE ARE GETTING THEIR FOOD CLOSER TO HOME WITH THE OPENING OF WEAVER STREET MARKET. THE DOWNTOWN’S FIRST FULL SERVICE GROCERY STORE TO OPEN IN YEARS. I FEEL LIKE I’LL HAVE LESS FOOD GOING BAD. I WON’T FEEL THE NEED TO BULK BUY. I HIV DOWNTOWN MYSELF. AND AT THE END OF A HONG DAY, THE LAST THING I WANT TO DO IS GET BACK IN MY CAR TO DRIVE TO THE OUTSKIRTS OF TOWN. STORE MANAGER, McEVER MICKEY MCCARTHY TOLD US THE STORE FOCUSES ON PRODUCTS FROM LOCAL FARMERS AND IS OWNED BY A CO-OP OWNED BY THOSE WHO WORK AND SHOP DOWN THESE AISLES. ALL THE PROFITS WE MAKE, THEY STAY IN THE COMMUNITY. THEY BELIEVE THE NEW STORE WILL FOSTER GROWTH THROUGHOUT DOWNTOWN. I THINK IT MAKES IT MORE OF A NEIGHBORHOOD DOWNTOWN. BEFORE DOWNTOWN WAS SOMEWHERE YOU CAN GO AND OVER THE PAST 10 OR 15 YEARS WE’VE SEEN PEOPLE MOVE BACK DOWNTOWN. IN CAN HELP ESTABLISH LONG-TERM RESIDENTS THAT DON’T REALLY HAVE TO LEAVE. I FEEL LIKE A LOT OF PEOPLE IN OUR GENERATION ONCE THEY START HAVING KIDS THEY THINK WE HAVE TO MOVE OUTSIDE OF TOWN BECAUSE THERE WASN’T A GROCERY STORE. THIS WILL BE A BIG DIFFERENCE. THEY HOPE IT WILL HELP OTHER
