Rock Climbing Training | India’s Citizen Squad E1P3 | Veer by Discovery

Emergencies often come without warning, When disasters strike, when your city is under siege, when everyone around you is helpless. What would you do? It’s an experiment that has never been done before… There are 6 highly trained military professionals from the special forces and 12 young Indian civilians. Do they have the passion to complete military training? Do they have the capacity to become first responders when disaster strikes? The motto of India’s citizen squad is to increase the courage and dedication among people We are training these young boys and girls to be first responders. When emergency strikes they must have the confidence to take quick action and save others. Can they become the India’s citizen squad? The rocky mountains of Kashmir are high and insurmountable. and that’s exactly what the next challenge is all about. We were taken to another new location where there were huge mountains and rocks. You heard about the Kargil war? Yes Sir! And you know that we had some major victories there? Yes Sir! So one of the major reasons for the victory of these battles was that we had surprised the enemy. We took a route that the enemy did not expect us to take. Understood? Do you see the mountains there, the highest ones with the snow? Such were the kind of mountains where Kargil was fought, those were the kind of peaks which were climbed and the enemy was attacked from behind. Now to achieve that kind of expertise you are going to require years of training but that’s not my aim here. My aim here is to give you an introduction to mountaineering. Some of the skills that we were teaching them were not only for the purpose of basic training but more of training to build their minds. In general, whenever people see a cliff they would think why should I climb this or why would I scale this. I want India’s Citizen Squad to look at the cliff anytime and say how would I scale this. When I reached the rock climbing site, I didn’t want to give up because I don’t give into failure so quickly. but I had understood that this was going to be quite difficult for me. When my turn came I was obviously like really scared. Shift Upwards, Shift the leg upwards I was not scared of rock climbing as much as I was scared of the thought that I won’t be able to do it First relax, breathe breathe At one point, my hand was slipping repeatedly and I couldn’t pull myself up. Ok down down I just said sorry to my team mates, for not completing the task but they supported me and said we thought you wouldn’t even attempt it. but you were on it, and kept going it and when you thought you won’t be able to do it still you kept going. still you did not lose courage and kept trying it’s like amazing I haven’t done mountain climbing ever before, it was my first time… and it was a pretty good experience. I always wanted to do this and right now I got the chance So I tried to perform well. The basics of rock craft are finally over, now it’s time for the relay race. Ok are we ready? Yes Sir! Okay Rishabh come here. When Col. Sarin asked who all wants to become Captain So I put my hand up and I guess so did Sonu. From my team, I was made the team leader and from the opposite team Rishabh was made the team leader. I thought this is the wrong round to participate with Sonu, it was not that we were confident which team will win but I had a feeling that Sonu’s team will have an advantage. So let me just explain the rules again The rules for the rock race are very simple. Every climber has to reach top and strike gong 1 and 2 each team gets four turns which will be timed, the team leader will decide if he sends four separate climbers or just his team’s best climbers to take the turns. What’s the plan? Sir basically I will select sunny and Sunil. When the round started my strategy was that I will send Sunil and Sunny in rotation. First Sunil then Sunny then again Sunil and then Sunny because we had only four attempts I think. So I thought they will be the best ones to do this task. Start! Keep it up! leave the rope loose It was very necessary that our partner who was supporting to loosen the rope, his timing should be right to leave the rope loose, then only we will be able to get down with speed. And after me it was Sunny’s turn and he climbed faster than me. slowly, slowly, no hurry In the first round Sunil took a little time but as he started the next round he nicely covered up for it and completed the second task in only 32 seconds. So that made us feel now we can win. After that Sunny also didn’t take much time. Climber 3, 2 gongs, 32.66 seconds In total we made 4 points but with 3 or 4 minutes… so yeah we completed the task nicely. Ok well done team red Blue team your turn Thank You Sir! It was my teams decisions to send me for maximum number of times as they had seen me climb before and it would be better for the team to win. Start! I climbed up in time but the relay did not loosen up. When we had to get down the relay got stuck somewhere which took a little bit more time. Start! I also took the second attempt, this time the relay was fine and I climbed also well so our time got reduced. Sonu was in their team who is a professional mountaineer. In the first attempt he took a little more time so we thought we had a chance to win but when he completed his second round he took only 32 seconds. Start! Our team’s strategy was that I will take the maximum attempts and in case I get tired Nilay will take one attempt. We thought Nilay will take the next attempt but Sonu came again. After that we knew who would win we were even calculating the time that the climbers were taking. I performed well and had the best timing in the fourth and the last round. Slowly! Loose loose loose loose, Slowly! Slowly! Beautiful! Well Done! Ok Manav which team do you think has won? Sir, the blue team won Are you sure? Yes Sir! Beautiful The blue team is the clear winner and will get an advantage in the final mission Both of you very well done. Thank You Sir! Both the technique as well as timing was good, now go down and you will get further instructions Yes Sir! Well Done Jai Hind Sir! The purpose of this training is to make a common man ready when the need arises. So when the country faces any difficult times he can face them and keep courage and believe in himself that it can be done Then victory is theirs.
