Scanning in 2 Minutes and 26 Seconds – RTV – Star Citizen

hello youtubers this is the Nuba fire yesterday on around the verse we’ve got an update about the future of scanning and today we got reverse the verse a live show of our questions are answered from chaton spectrum here’s a TV and our TV on scanners in 2 minutes and 26 seconds currently we have a placeholder where the targets are simply displayed at a particular range the intent is to add a system where general pain would be sent identifying an object location with very little data by continuing to focus on the object you’ll improve your understanding of it scanning an object with a ping would give away your own position and it could also be seen as a potential threat the more power you commit to a scan the greater its effectiveness but you would also be detected sooner the visual blobs on the HUD are going to show pilots where something is pilot could then choose to fly near without performing a ping to get more information without giving up their location the pilot could also simply choose to hit the object with the scan possibly getting the same results but at a greater distance depending on the scanner the pilot will receive different information activating a minor scanner will display the composition of the or contained within the object activating a scanner towards a ship would result in ship information such as crew composition components cargo and other factors there are currently no mechanics that would allow one player to jam another scanner stealth mechanics could inadvertently achieve this as not being detected would yield nothing to scan detections being modeled to represent a ratio between signal strength and distance the further you are and the less you’re emitting the less likely you’ll be possibly detected the ping is being modeled simply as a more sensitive scan which is harder to remain undetected mark mentioned that the pilot may have some detailed indicator that would Express how detectable his own signature is e wor can only proceed after scanning is completed there are plans for 8 tailored widths of the scanning beam ships with more specialized gear such as the Aquila are going to be able to scan in a player to find direction due to its dome array ships with more rudimentary scanner gear are gonna follow the direction of the ship the pilot scanner display is part of the player HUD and not the ship scanning is intended to scale all the way down to the person specifically at that level you may be able to see what the persons packing there’s gonna be a ping cooldown timer when working as a team one ship such as a Terrapin will be able to share its scan data with the others there was also mention of the opposite this would be pulling several ships with several scanners to improve its effectiveness by sharing the data at the end there were several minutes where the panel discussed hypothetical scenarios which would be possible in the future and in the future if you’re actively scanned there should be an alert to let you know there you go fly safe and I’ll see you in the verse

Now I'm wondering how the Terrapin with it's "quasi-stealth" will be at also scanning. Since it's always been talked about how it will be able to power down and go cold to scan. Well now that scanning gives you away, will that still be the case? If not, then the Terrapin since it's so slow will become nothing but a flying coffin waiting to be destroyed.

I desperately want CIG to start bringing on more game designers to talk about the actual mechanics and how they want the game to play out. The hardest part of development is still ahead of them – designing fun gameplay experiences.

I think it be cool if in the future you can have a bunch of ship scanning one area all a little power to get the same result as one ship on high-power Scanning

Will be interesting to see how they flesh this out. I like premise so definitely looking forward to seeing how linked ships can improve the data received. Thx Noob, love the #NoBullshit style as always 🍻

The idea of several scout vessels routing their collective sensor data through a command and control ship, and all the other ships of a fleet networking with that CnC ship to benefit from the composite sensor data gives me chills. Delightful, nerdy chills.

RADAR is used in such a broad broad context. Real life scanning involves dozens of scanning technologies working at different frequencies and energy levels across the electromagnetic spectrum.

I just want the game to stop clipping me through surfaces and run over 10 FPS. 😊

    Thanks for the short videos.

Thank you Noobifier for your no bullshit rundown of these videos. It saves me the time of sitting through the hrs of long babble, trying to sift through it to find the meat of it. Please keep up this type of service!

soooo… people are like bee hives.. the closer you get with your ping, the more buzzing about you'll hear. and a higher likelihood of getting stung you'll have.

    Hi Noob
Scanning sounds mmm interesting…i hope this will make the terrapin a good purchase. I have tried to purchase ships to give me variety of game play and of course earning potential.

That is well thought out way to handle scanning. The fuel mechanic business really hurt my enthusiasm, maybe making all the ships I enjoy flying 'short range' wont be as bad as I fear. I haven't been able to motivate myself to play since they announced that.

Finally something I have wanted a long time. I like scanning and knowing where others are. I can then decide to run, hide, or go on about my business. As an explorer in my heart I am a scan machine. Love than we can share and link scan data. One Terapin, two or three support ships, maybe explorer module in a group of friends and let the fun begin.

This is the sort of thing CIG should looking into, Game Play. SC has enough ships, once the game is release continue to release new ships and vehicles, but until release, please focus on game mechanics and architecture.

When it comes to long-range detection, I find this deeply disappointing. It sounds like an equipment-centric system with a glorified "progress bar" mechanic. I was hoping for a more skill-based system where long-range scanners output data which computers could resolve at certain ranges (based on software and hardware qualities) but a player (or NPC) who developed expertise could identify at longer ranges.

Think WWII sonar: an amateur can ID a cargo ship at full speed at 500m, but an expert could pick one out from the background noise at 16km.

Different equipment would work in different spectrums (optical, thermal, radio, x-ray, etc) and some things could only be uniquely identified by reconciling the outputs from measurements in multiple spectrums.

It's the interpreting of sensor data which will make it an interesting mechanic (and a tasks some people might look forward to in a long flight).

"Captain, let me boost the signal and hover my cursor" will hardly result in a Hunt For Red October experience where the sonar operator isn't sure if what they're hearing is a whale, school of fish, hostile submarine, an echo of their own sub, or simple paranoia causing them to believe they've found something non-random in the randomness.

Great game mechanics that I really didn't understand before; now you've made me an expert in less than two and a half mins – appreciated 🙂

I really hope they get the HUD right for scanning. Also, a utility or something if you’re not wearing a flight suit inside a larger ship.
