Societies and Events – Add new skills for your CV | Oxford Brookes University


Here we’re setting up for the open-air cinema which is now indoors because it’s raining today. We have two live singers coming to perform before and then we’re playing Bohemian Rhapsody. We’re also having a barbecue, popcorn and chocolates. My role within the team is operations. So I sourced the screen supplier. I had to pick out three different screen suppliers that we did site visits with – and then I sourced catering. I joined the Business Society in my first semester of second year. I became the Interim Treasurer during the first semester and then I applied and ran for the Vice President position and I was elected. We host many talks with industry leaders. So CEOs, they come in and give us workshops. We also host many socials throughout the year where our members are allowed to mingle and network and form their own business networks for the future. I really think my employability has increased. I’ve added a whole new section to my CV and it’s helped added so many skills and so much experience that I wouldn’t be able to have put on it before. The new skills I’ve picked up would be accountability and budgeting, leadership, problem-solving, and in general, there’s just plenty of skills that you could pick up: networking skills, people skills, organisation because it’s all involved in running student-led societies at Oxford Brookes University. When going to placement interviews, I was talking about this event and really telling them all about my role within the team, getting all the production side of things done. Three, two, one…
