The Cancer Society – how we can help

Every day 63 Kiwis will be given the
news they’ve got cancer. Knowing where to turn can make all the difference. If
you’ve been affected by cancer we’re here to help. Gidday and welcome. I’m
Andrew, come on in, meet my team and find out what we do. Kia Ora I’m Michelle. I head up a friendly team of nurses and psychologists. We’re the experts when it
comes to cancer support. We also have a great team of volunteers who are doing their bit for you too. With a cancer diagnosis people’s lives are turned upside down. Having your own dedicated nurse to visit you at home means there is support when you need it. With our team of registered nurses help and advice is just a phone call away. Hi, I’m Sudha. For many people getting to
treatment can be tough. That’s where the Cancer Society driving service can make
all the difference. Many people live out of Auckland but
need to receive their treatment here. The Cancer Society provides a home away from
home at domain lodge. Patients can stay here as long as their treatment lasts. Hi, I’m Anna. Cancer Society psychologists are here to talk to people with cancer
and those close to them. We teach people strategies for coping with things like
stress and help them to get the support that they need. We want to see fewer
people getting cancer in the future. We’re here to push for smoke-free environments
and to help people be safe in the sun. We’re proud to be New Zealand’s largest
funder of private research. Our colleagues at the Auckland Cancer
Society Research Centre are working hard on world leading treatments. The Cancer Society receives no government funding, all these programs happen thanks to
the generosity of people in our community. We’d like to say a big Kia ora to everyone who takes part in our events and supports us with donations. We are here ready to help if you ever need us.
