This week, it’s a totally

self-working card trick that you can’t

possibly screw up. Plus, it’ll actually fool you! [THEME MUSIC] This episode of “Scam School,”

brought to you by Go Daddy. Welcome to the

show that’s exactly like Disneyland, only drunk

and highly unfriendly– and may have stolen your wallet. “Scam School”– the

only show dedicated to social engineering at

the bar and on the street. And this week, we have a

gem that I absolutely love. It’s a card trick

that people have told me dozens of time I

should have on “Scam School,” and finally we’re

making it happen. It’s one that requires

no sleight of hand, no mental mathemagic-ery

whatsoever. And the best part

is, it actually fools the person

performing the trick. Let’s check this guy out. OMG, I am so super-stoked. We’ve got Simone and Stephen and

Mike all here in the same place at the same time. And I’m going to show you guys

a card trick that people have been suggesting

for “Scam School” since, I kid you not,

like, episode three. Now we’re all the way up

to episode, like, 200. This thing, it’s really weird,

because it’s simultaneously 100% self-working, requires no

slight of hand, no mental math. It’s, like, follow three steps. And here’s the best

part– it actually fools the magician

who’s doing it. Like, I’ve done this for myself,

like, 20 times in the hotel room before here. That’s how sad I am. Here’s what we’re going to do. First of all, I need you

guys to shuffle up the cards. Here– all of you. Just mix them up. Make sure there’s no

possible way I could possibly know what order any of the cards

are, because it truly doesn’t matter what order the cards are. All right, we’re good? Everything’s 100%? All right, now

here’s the best part, is that I can even describe in

detail every single thing I’m going to do, the

entire trick long, and hopefully the ending

will still be amazing. First thing I’m

going to do is make a bunch of piles based

on the order of cards that you guys picked. I’ll tell you in advance

that the total of each pile is going to be 13. Now, in this case,

we have a king. And it by itself is worth 13. So now I’m going

to take the nine. So from nine, we

go 10, 11, 12, 13. Now I go to the next

one, four, which means I do five, six, seven,

eight, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13. Two, which means two, three,

four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13. Three– four, five, six, seven,

eight, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13. Six– seven, eight,

nine, 10, 11, 12, 13. Nine– 10, 11, 12, 13. And we’ve got a couple of extras

that I’ll set right over here. So we have a bunch of piles

here– one, two, three, four, five, six– seven piles. I’m going to turn around. I’m not going to look. Each of you guys pick

one of these piles to flip over, and then gather

up all the remaining face-up cards. Make sense? Each of you pick one

pile, turn it face down, take all the other cards,

gather them up in a pile. I’m being very good, looking

in the other direction. You’ll have to tell me when

you’ve finished, by the way. Do we? Or we could sit here

awkwardly for the remainder of the evening. OK, you’ve got it. Excellent. All right, so we’ve

got three face downs, and we’ve got a bunch

of discards over here. Now, here’s the thing. I honestly don’t

know what card is on top of the piles

you guys picked. I wasn’t paying attention. And if I was a wizard, I

couldn’t have possibly kept track of all the

different things. But we’ve got a few

cards left over, and maybe they know

which cards are where. So here’s what I want you to do. Simone, I want you to

reach forward and turn over the top card of

one of those piles. All right, we’ve got a two. We’ll let Mike pick one

of those remaining piles, turn over the top card. I’ll stick to the outside. Six. But now here’s the

best– I’m going to ask the cards what’s up. And I’m going to start– you

just deal off 10 cards– two, three, four, five, six,

seven, eight, nine, 10. And we got two over here,

so we’ll go one, two. And we’ve got six over here–

one, two, three, four, five, six. And wouldn’t it be amazing

if the cards could tell us? We’ve got one, two,

three– four cards left. And the last face down

card is– the four. Awesome. Wow. All right, now seriously,

this thing is amazing. It absolutely blows away

the person who performs it. It requires no skill, and

it works 100% of the time. Are you guys ready to

figure out how this Works Yeah. Then toast me. All right, we’ve

got to take a moment and thank the people who

make “Scam School” possible. And today, it’s one of our

oldest, bestest friends, “Scam School”

sponsors of all time. I’m talking about our friends

over at Go Daddy– godaddy.com, you know that they have 99.9%

uptime, super cheap domains, 24/7 support, and no

annual commitment. But did you know that they

make you more popular? For example, we got this sweet

code– scam10 at checkout. It gets you a domain

for $7.99, and you can point that domain anywhere. And I kid you not, just five

minutes before we went live, I used my mobile phone app

to register LikeMeDammit.com. You know how I’m

always saying, oh, you should follow me on Twitter

and like me on Facebook and be my BFF on Google Plus? This is one URL that

gives you all of that. Just go to Like Me

Dammit and click Yes on everything, so you and I

can be best friends forever. Like me, damn it– and

use promo code scam10 at checkout, super

cheap domains. All right, now, it

make look like there’s a lot of steps to this. But trust me– it’s

super, super simple. And no matter how smart or dumb

or skilled or unskilled you are, as long as you

follow the steps, you cannot screw this up. Who wants to be my

guinea pig here? All right, Simone. That was awfully fast. Everyone looked

right over at Simone. All right, so here’s

what we’re going to do. First step is you

do have to arrange in that bizarre kind

of ordering where each pile has a

total value of 13. Even though the deck

is totally shuffled– you honestly have

no idea what order the cards are in–

start with any card. We’ll have the ace be one, so

two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10,

jack, queen, king– 13. Five– six, seven, eight,

nine, 10, jack, queen, king– that’s 13. Eight– nine, 10,

jack, queen, king. Four– five, six seven, eight,

nine, 10, jack, queen, king. Nine– 10, jack, queen, king. Queen, king. And then you’ve got extras. And the extras you always just

set face down off to the side. It doesn’t matter which

ones they turn over when you turn your back. Now, in this case

it worked out great because we had three people. I was able to turn my back. Each of you picked a

pile, so we’ll just say randomly that

it’s these three. And then just gather up

all the remaining ones and make one giant pile. Once you do, have two of the

piles– turn over the top card, and you’re going to figure out

the value of the last card. So here, you guys turn over two. So in this case, we want

to know the last one. You always start

by dealing off 10. Now, if you can make

up some kind of reason why it has to be

10, that’s great. But I say keep it simple and

just go one, two, three, four, five, six, seven,

eight, nine, 10. Then deal off the

value of the cards. So you’ve got one for the ace

and then one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. And amazingly, every

single time when you deal off the

remaining cards, that will be the value

of the last one. One, two, three, four, five,

six, seven, eight, nine– and it matches nine. Any questions? No. You ready? Yeah. All right, here– go ahead

and gather them all up. In fact, we’ll go ahead

and shuffle them for you, and then you show us your

amazing rock star magic skills. I’m not so good at this. All right, here. So we’ll start off. We’re going to

shuffle up the deck. Here, give that a cut. Boom. All right, Simone. Blow us away with that

totally shuffled up deck. OK, so that’s one. Up to 13. There you go. So five six, seven, eight,

nine, 10, 11, 12, 13. Queen– king. Wow, look at that. Well, hello. So 10, 11, 12, 13. And then keep on going. 10, 11, 12, 13. Four, five, six, seven,

eight, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13. And one more, right? You can stop right now. But what I like to do is create

as many piles as possible. So I would keep on

going if you can. Nine, 10, 11, 12 13. And now at this point,

you see there’s a six, and there’s clearly not

enough cards to hit 13, then you cut it off at that. Right? And now what do we do, Simone? Oh, I have to turn around. And what are we going to do? You’re gonna flip three

of the piles over. All right. And then you’re going to put all

the rest together in one pile. Good call. I’m going to do that. Don’t look. It’s our secret piles. All right. We got them– three

piles for you. Boom. So now I put those with this. And then I have

you guys turn over two of the piles, the top cards. Two of the top cards. All right, go for it, sir. An ace. Bet you didn’t plan on that. No. Mike? Four. You can’t handle the four. You’re screwed. You’ll never be

able to tell us what this final card is, Simone. Yes, I will. Nu-uh. Uh-huh. Yuh-huh? Because I’m gonna deal 10 cards. And then I’m going to

deal one card for the ace. And then four

cards for the four. The amount of

cards left is going to tell me what

that top card is. No way. Yeah. No way. No, I got bets against it. It should be five. Five? If this is a five, I’m

buying a beer for everyone at this freakin’ table. Oh! Oh, nice. Amazing wizardry. Well done, Simone. Good job. Now, is this the single

most impressive card trick you’re ever

going to learn? Of course not. But is it a hell of a

lot of fun, dead simple, and it works every time? Absolutely. That’s why I want you to

actually grab a deck of cards and start playing

with this thing. That first time that you get the

moment of counting the cards, seeing there’s eight of them,

and you turn over the top card and it’s perfectly

matches, you are going to be in love,

just like I am. And speaking of which, I want to

hear about your success stories and failure stories, so

I want you to hit us up at the boards at

scamschool.tv, where you can see all of our episodes

right back to episode one. If you want to

follow me personally, why don’t you hit up

my Google Plus account? Head on over to

gplus.to./shwood, and you and I could be BFFs. And of course if you want to

suggest your favorite bar scam, write me directly at

[email protected] Make sure to join us next week,

because I am personally going to physically assault

every single person who posts the word

first on this video. I’m talking to you, mister. Why don’t you put a

nice word for a change? [THEME MUSIC]

thanks bro its the best trick ever

Author

never worked

Author

OK, so, all that is well and good. But to take it to the next level, can you name the suit of the card? Now THAT would be a good trick to know.

Author

I actually screwed this one

Edit:Now i get it right

King=13

Queen=12

Jack=11

Ace=1

Author

It ain’t working bro make it simpler

Author

His hair just shouts 2011

Author

Yo hair lol

Author

I have discovered that this card trick also works if you add two jokers into the deck, as long as they count as 14, you make piles that count up to 14 instead of 13, and you don't remove 10 but 9 cards from the pile. I love this card trick and adding in the jokers for a second round like "do you think it's just a mathematics trick?" Bluff is really great

Author

This doesn’t work at all for me. I tried four times

Author

https://youtu.be/gHGgm255FKo

Can someone please try to find the Algorithm for this trick?

I was able to arrange 13 cards with hit and trial methods, but what if i have 15 20 or say 30 cards.. How should i arrange to get the perfect sequence..

Author

Cant even watch this video due to that haircut!

Flips 2nd pile over

A 9

3 cards in my hands

Can't screw this up

Author

Is a jack = 11 and a queen = 12 etc ..

Of are they a 10

Author

I'm always 1 off…..HOWWWWWWW

Author

Late to the party but if you wanna know how this works you can learn the math behind it from the Video Magic 13 from D!NG hosted by Micheal from VSauce

Author

That's crazy 😮

Author

so you always deal 10 towards the end first, then the numbers of the face value of the two?

Author

Yeah…um…Somehow managed to get 6 piles, and they all 'added' up to 13.

Edit: Yes I have all 52 cards.

Author

"It's so easy you CAN'T screw this trick up!"

Me: Hold my beer.

Author

I screwed it up once! But on the 2nd time I've done it until I repeat and it really works

Author

My guy rocking the statue of liberty looks

Author

so how come this trick works? what's the science or math behind it?!

Author

So does this trick not work?

Author

Any questions? No, no, nope, man im screwed, i had at least 3 , and every answer would have elicited 2 more questions and so on, u think dyslexia sucks! U should have what i have,

Author

“You can’t mess up this trick.”

Well that sucks because it didn’t work for me

Author

You can't screw this up ha I screwed it up

Author

My momma taught me this when I was a kid, towards the end when they have their piles chosen, I turn while they 3 card monte their 3 stacks while I secretly count all the remaining cards, then I just deduct 10 off the top of that and work from there.

Author

This goes so well with NOC cards. You'll actually know the numerical value along with the suit. Try it out!

Author

I see their mamas raised them well. Even on that old weathered picnic table with the warped, split wood, they used coasters.

Trick starts at 1:26

You’re Welcome

Author

What is the amount of the Jack

Author

the card trick works every time, as long as there are 52 cards in you deck, you aren’t using jokers, and you’re counting correctly

Author

What!!!! Posted 2011 and I've just found it, I could of been amazing people years ago. Fantastic card trick that I'll be doing on everyone. Thanks

Author

Wow..thx mate 4 making my kids happy

Author

How can people screw up, I do this perfectly the first time

"noted I've been a Magician for 5 months so I guess I can do this better than most"

Author

first lol in 2019

Author

How the. Fuck does that shit work I’m doing it and it actually worked

Author

I messed it up…

Author

I've been doing this card trick for yrs, only slightly different, but I can't find anyone who can explain WHY it works every time. It must be mathematical but I can't figure it out.

Author

Wow 😮 this is amazing…. I'm so gonna look cool doing this trick thanks

Author

Can somebody tell him he got his pet hedgehog on his head the whole time..

Author

I did it. First time. I had many piles. Is it normal. But. Thanks scam School for a great trick

Author

This probably is just too complicated for a simple gimmick

Author

It's not amazing, it's simple math, permutation group of the given set. Let the three turned-down deck (groups) be called A, B and C (uppercase) and the top cards of them a, b and c respectively. Then you have (14∗3−a−b−c) cards on the table and 52−(42−a−b−c) or in other words 10+a+b+c cards in your hand. Then you put 10+a+b cards on the table, and you have (10+a+b+c)−(10+a+b)=c cards in your hand. So the amount of cards you have will naturally be exactly the amount of the value of the top card (the first integer of the remaining group).

Author

I tried to fool my friends. But didn’t worked. Because while I was issuing the cards two king cards came, however they flip over king cards itself. After removing 13 and 13 cards. Huge number of cards were remaining. Could you please try in explained way.

Author

Wow this card trick really works , I have tried it 30 times and it work perfectly ; I am definitely joining the scam nation

Author

who else is here in 2019

Author

If you are lucky enough to get the three remaining suits in your hand of the value of card you can do an even better prediction. If this happens I might select some prediction cards from my hand. Ie, colour, then suit, then value. If your confident enough you could even force the prediction cards on the audience so they end up making the prediction themselves!

Author

I screwed it up somehow

Author

It is dangerous to put your finger in an electric light socket!

Author

I found out that I had 53 cards after my 10th time of predicting 1 number higher

Author

Screws up

Author

What if the card you flip is a king queen or jack? How many card do you deal down? Also what if you don’t have enough cards to deal down

Author

Your hair sucks

Author

Enjoyed the trick!

Author

This is a top 3 trick for me that uses all 52 cards, buy not necessarily a Top 3 card trick as I have wonderful ones that only use half of the deck or just the face cards. The excuse that I give for counting off 10 cards randomly is that the card trick is a perfect 10. I say this more so to remind myself as opposed to actually announcing it. I think you can silently, quickly get rid of 10 cards without anyone caring or noticing. While at it, it's better to do counts silently and not reveal how you keep coming up with the right answer. Make it a true mentalism trick.

Author

x,y,z are in the range of 1:13 (A,2,3,…,Q,K)

After the 3 piles are selected… you will have 52 cards minus the size of the three piles.

The size of a given pile is 14-value. For example, a Queen is a 12. 14-12 = 2.

Therefore, you will have the following number of cards leftover:

52-(14-x) – (14-y) – (14-z)

This simplifies to…

10+x+y+z

Once they flip two cards, lets say X and Y, you can now solve for z.

This is because 10+x+y+z = the number of cards you are holding. Once you remove 10, x, and y,

all you have left is z which is the final card yet to be turned over.

You could relate this to the story of the Russian revolution if you wanted to. The social divide started in 1910 (10 cards excuse), communists wanted to “equalize” everyone to live like kings, and those that are thrown away could be “sent to the gulag” by the three piles, Lenin, Stalin, and Trotsky. (You could do a force by revealing it in the order of their deaths, making the smallest pile, or the highest card, the last one revealed)

Author

Fooled my self

Author

That's amazing dude… Thumbs up

Author

I learned this trick in the 80's and it's the only card trick I've ever known. +10 Nostalgia!

Author

I LEARNED THIS TRICK IN JAIL

Author

I messed up like 3 times

Author

One other ending I like is to deal off the numbers of the cards they flipped over, then deal the rest onto the pile you've already dealt off, and then spread all the cards out and say you're going to read the cards to determine their card. It makes it seem a little less calculated than just counting off the cards imo

Author

Can someone give me the name of this card trick, or know where i can find the written instructions.

Author

That looks like a shiny Modern Rouge.
