Tracey Crouch – Civil Society Strategy

I believe in the strength of civil society as an enormous force for good From acts of kindness and generosity by people to community led activities and the vital work of charities and social enterprises Civil Society is essential to improving lives and strengthening our communities Civil Society has changed significantly in recent years with a growing number of profit making business setting up for social good adding to the efforts of traditional not-for-profit charities community groups and youth organisations We also see more and more people embracing opportunities to make a positive change in their lives and those of others, be it through volunteering of investing in social causes. We know that Civil Society has a fantastic ability to bring people across our communities together in a way which government cannot That’s why we want to build on our strong foundations and shared mission with Civil Society We want to build a deep sense of trust and ambition between people, organisations and sectors that will allow us to find new and creative ways to respond to the challenges we face together I want us to be ambitious about what we can achieve now and in the future At the same time we must be realistic about the financial and legislative pressures facing us So I want to have an open conversation where we explore bold ideas about Civil Society, how it is working well and what government and others can change to strengthen it to build a stronger society together You can make your voice heard by submitting your views on the Civil Society Strategy at gov.uk/ocs gov.uk/ocs or by clicking the link in this video We want to hear your views in four key areas which are addressing overall Civil Society, people, partnership and places and you can choose to just answer the questions that are relevant to you The first section deals with the big questions of what Civil Society is and how it is working well, and what needs to change to strengthen it further The people section explores how more people can play an active role in changing the world they live in for the better better and get involved in issues that matter to them The partnership conversation is about exploring the best ways to work together across different sectors and organisations to make a positive difference in our society And the place questions explore how we empower local people to improve the places they live and work in and have a say in how they are run During this twelve week conversation my team will be reading your answers which will help shape our new Civil Society strategy so whether you’re an active citizen, a young person work in a responsible business or social enterprise support a charity, or simply care about creating a brighter future for all of us, I want to hear from you about how we can work together to build a stronger and better society
